Spinal Decompression

Spinal Decompression Provided by Our Greensburg and Export Chiropractors

At Westmoreland Chiropractic & Rehab Associates in Greensburg and Export, we offer spinal manipulation, which is the treatment most often associated with chiropractors. We also provide several other spinal treatments, most notably spinal decompression. Spinal decompression is a safe procedure that can be completed with minimal pain. This treatment method is effective for herniated and bulging discs, which are difficult for traditional doctors to treat. Read on to learn more about the spinal decompression that we offer at our Tacoma office.

General Information

Spinal decompression therapy is a nonsurgical method for back pain relief. Specifically, during this treatment, our chiropractors will ask you to lie on a special table. Our practitioners will connect you to rigging that attaches to a motorized device. When the chiropractor turns the machine on, it gently will pull the lower half of your body downward while the top will pull you upward. As it pulls your body in different directions simultaneously, your spine stretches. The vertebrae separate from the discs during the treatment.

Conditions Treated with Spinal Decompression

Our chiropractors may recommend spinal decompression if you have sciatica. This is a symptom that includes pain and possibly numbness, weakness, and tingling that extends from your lower back and potentially through your hips and buttocks and down your legs. The spinal decompression relieves pressure on the sciatic nerve, which causes these symptoms when it's damaged or compressed.

Spinal decompression can also benefit you if you have a herniated disc. This is an injury that arises from a tear in a spinal disc's lining. The contents of the disc begin to leak through this opening and irritate the surrounding nerves and soft tissue.

Our practitioners may suggest you undergo spinal decompression if you have a bulging disc. Although this injury is less likely to cause pain than a herniated disc, it could press on the surrounding nerves and tissue from the bulging. This problem occurs when the lining of your disc weakens, and the contents push on it. Our chiropractors might prescribe spinal decompression if you have degenerative disc disease or age-related wear on a disc.

Benefits of Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression doesn't require any medication. Therefore, you don't pose the risk of addiction or any potentially serious side effects. Additionally, spinal decompression is safe to use along with other treatments, including other chiropractic treatments. Since it's noninvasive, there's no downtime.

This particular treatment reaches the root of the problem rather than just covering it. Spinal decompression works to heal the injury effectively.
